Artist Georgi Tsenov is a Bulgarian painter and educator living and working in Glasgow. He holds a Master of Arts degree from Sofia University and has exhibited extensively internationally. We’re delighted to welcome him back to Six Foot Gallery with fifteen of his deliciously intricate oil paintings.

Hi Georgi, great to have you back! To start us off, tell us which artists inspire you?
My biggest artistic influence has been the amazing sculptor and person; my father, Tseno Tsenov. He was the one that opened the door and showed me the magnificent world of art. He encouraged me to travel through this incredible realm. During all these years he has always been my biggest supporter through all the obstacles and disappointments of my artistic voyage. Despite his almost 91 years, I continue to look up to his balance of pursuing aesthetic ideals and keeping the most important human traits.

What has been the biggest inspiration in your practice?
My biggest inspiration is the process itself of creating art. The initial idea and plan is just a starting point of an exciting adventure full of unexpected discoveries. My obsession of the creative process can be so captivating that I forget about the end goal of finishing the painting.

What would you say is your favourite work in the exhibition?
For this question I say the cliché answer: that my best work is still to be painted. That is rather longing towards something sparkling, almost magical, and unmade in striving for the ideal. What better than this for the unpainted picture that only exists in my imagination!

Have you experimented with other mediums and techniques?
It goes without saying that I thoroughly enjoy using and discovering new mediums. I think this searching is a creative challenge which shapes new horizons in the development of an artist. Unfortunately in my case the small size of my studio limits my ideas for experimentation.

How did you arrive at the theme of your exhibition?
Initially I had planned for this upcoming exhibit to be motivation for new artwork in a slightly different direction. But through various circumstances the theme evolved that the upcoming collection contains varied style, subject and created different periods. But I think this approach has its own charms.

See Georgi Tsenov’s work at Six Foot Gallery until 14th November 2025.
