Our newest show, Syzygy, features works from five artists: Alessandro Sireus, Lianne Allen, Mano Camatsos, Jarmila Blaskova, and Liam Beeney, working in an eclectic mix of watercolour, acrylic, oils, and collage.

Alessandro Sireus

Always fond of art and drawings, Alessandro decided to follow his heart and, with the support of his family, enrolled at the Art Institute in Sassari, from which he graduated in advertising graphics and photography in 2008. During these years of study, Alessandro realised that his real passion lay in painting and drawing rather than in graphics. Consequently, he chose to focus on developing his painting and drawing skills and eventually received a degree in Pictorial Decoration from the Academy Of Fine Arts in 2013.

Alessandro has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including in Sardinia and in Florence. In 2017 Alessandro moved to Edinburgh where he currently lives and keeps up his art practice alongside organising exhibitions in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Lianne Allen

Lianne Allen, who also goes by the name Penny, is a local artist who specialises in watercolours. Born in Staffordshire, England, she studied art and design at college and completed a degree in stop motion animation. After 5 years of travel and working abroad, she decided to settle in Edinburgh, where her love for watercolours grew. She finally had a base to expand and create with her love of art and nature.

Lianne has been working with watercolours for over 8 years now, focusing on nature, mostly birds. In the chaos of humanity, she finds peace and solace in the vision and sounds of birds. For her they are nature’s messengers and spirit guides.

Mano Camatsos

Mano Camatsos is a person of Greek origin, born in South Africa with an upbringing fragmented across parts of the United States, Europe, and South America. Mano began making music while studying film in Los Angeles and developed his style and producing skills in Oxford, and on his native island of Lesbos. During this period he also began painting and developed his future primitive style, a free flowing ‘map of my brain’.

In Los Angeles and New York he formed music groups and recorded an urban ethnographic album documenting the Occupy Los Angeles protests. He eventually moved to Berlin to form a music group under the name of Raiments, and for four years played shows, festivals and concerts while producing three albums. He also sold art works at auctions in Berlin. He still performs as Raiments in Edinburgh and has toured the UK and Italy.

Jarmila Blaskova

Slovak born Jarmila Blaskova discovered her love for art and creative expression during the Covid-19 period, and this was where her work grew the most. Jarmila mostly works in acrylics but also enjoys experimenting with different materials, such as oils. Jarmila’s work is very detailed. Each piece represents and carries its own background story.

Liam Beaney

Liam Beaney is a collage artist; a graduate of the University of Sunderland now based in Glasgow. Their work mainly deals with political and social issues. They use their own language of creating collages to depict the scenes in their pieces, utilising magazine cutouts and mixed media of pen and inks. The inspirations for their work include Japanese anime, current affairs, literature, and personal experiences with love, identity, and prejudice.
