Not All Who Wander Are Lost: Sándor Nagy

Sándor Nagy (1980–2025)

Six Foot Gallery is honoured to present twenty five works by Sándor Nagy. Sándor was a Hungarian-born, Scotland-based visual artist whose life and work were inseparably woven with his love of nature, his hunger for knowledge, and his profound belief in the transformative power of art. Working across photography, painting, and land art, his practice combined a deeply personal vision with themes of ritual, myth, and spirituality.

In recent years, infrared photography became central to Sándor’s work. Through this medium he revealed landscapes in an otherworldly light, opening a window into realms of beauty and fragility beyond the visible. His piece Boom received an award at the 2025 Scottish Landscape Awards, a recognition of his unique approach to contemporary landscape art.

Alongside photography, Sándor pursued painting and installation, often drawing on archetypal and mythological figures. His monumental depictions of Odin and his performative work Wind – The White Mask embodied inner transformation and ritual presence. In land art, he sought direct dialogue with the natural world: works such as Sídhe’s Circle, created on Ireland’s Copper Coast, reflected his fascination with thresholds between the seen and the unseen, the material and the spiritual.

Sándor approached life with an insatiable thirst for learning and took great pride in his studies, which continually deepened and expanded his artistic practice. His journey was also marked by illness, yet even in the most difficult moments he carried immense strength, faith, and dignity. These qualities not only defined his art but also inspired all who walked alongside him.

For Sándor, nature was not just a subject but a home, a sacred space of renewal and belonging. It was his everything, and it is there that he now rests – surrounded by what he most loved. Beyond being an artist, he was a remarkable human being: a devoted husband, a loving father, and a true friend. His legacy endures not only in his works, but also in the love, wisdom, and human connections he left behind.

Not All Who Wander Are Lost: Sándor Nagy runs at Six Foot Gallery 16th – 30th October 2025.
