Kaela explores a sense of belonging in her identity culture where she creates movement within her jewellery to represent the transitioning of her cultures; Scottish and Thai. Kaela combines traditional techniques alongside modern technologies to help aid her design process in which she uses silver, acrylic and aluminium as the main materials in her work.
Her time at art school allowed her to explore a wide range of materials, processes and different techniques not only within jewellery but across other departments. Kaela was also fortunate enough to be able to participate in a Transatlantic exchange at OCAD in Toronto, which she regards as a highly beneficial life experience. Upon her return, she used fourth year to develop her practice and to acquire her own style within her work.
Kaela will now be based at the new Vanilla Ink space within The Maklab in Glasgow.
